SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects nationwide. This role supports the network and communications pre-commissioning and commissioning process to ensure devices communicate properly during hot commissioning. This role is fully remote with regular travel to various job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and implement site-specific commissioning plans and adhere to schedules.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including engineering, construction, quality assurance, and SCADA to ensure alignment on commissioning activities.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, including performance testing, functional testing, and reliability testing of all communications systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the commissioning process to ensure optimal performance of SCADA and site communications systems.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, documenting test results, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
  • Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating feedback and lessons learned from completed projects.
  • Assist site commissioning personnel in establishing the Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
  • Perform utility-scale solar power plants testing for EPC or Utilities in the United States.
  • Fiber installation and testing.
  • Ethernet installation and testing.
  • Serial communications installation and testing (Modbus, DNP, etc.).
  • SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning.
  • Apply knowledge of National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) standards, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
  • Understand NETA and IEEE standards as related to utility-scale solar generation, including transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing.
  • Understand the commercial performance of power plants.
  • Present, support, and lead-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Lead by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring all employees follow safe practices while working.
  • Reinforce safe behaviors and correct at-risk behaviors.
  • Adhere to and ensure all site team members understand standard operating procedures.
  • Lead and support the site team in technical, quality, and safety, utilizing systems in place.
  • Utilize, inspect, and understand proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commissioning utility-scale solar power projects.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and communications systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings/schematics.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.

Familiarity with the following is a plus:

  • NERC guidelines and various ISO and TSO organization requirements.
  • DCS/SCADA control systems and methods for utility-scale generation.
  • Testing of mechanical and solid-state relaying systems.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to weather, harsh outdoor environments, and variable site conditions.
  • Requires frequent stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting 50 or more lbs.
  • Constant finger dexterity and ability to see details at close range and at a distance, hear, talk, and possess depth perception.
  • Occasional climbing and carrying, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access places.
  • Occasional extended work hours/potential for overnight work.
  • Potential for extended travel/remote work.
  • The noise intensity level may be high.

Pay

$101,363.00 - $121,635.00 (Salary)
