About the role

The University of Iowa Healthcare department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Clinical Dietitian II or Dietitian I to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Newborn Nursery, and Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic at Stead Family Children’s Hospital. This position involves teaching dietetic students, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and developing nutritional components of care.

Responsibilities

  • Use Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy for patients in the NICU, Newborn Nursery, and Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic.
  • Teach dietetic students.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and develop nutritional components of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient’s status according to age.
  • Make enteral and parenteral recommendations and select appropriate formulas.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 5-7 years of clinical nutrition experience.
  • Demonstrated competency of patient care in the neonatal patient population across a wide range of medical conditions in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.

Qualifications

  • For Clinical Dietitian II: Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience includes 5-7 years of clinical nutrition experience, demonstrated competency in neonatal patient care, and certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.
  • For Clinical Dietitian I: Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates registered prior to January 1, 2024, require a Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required. Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.

Skills

Knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient’s status according to age, ability to make enteral and parenteral recommendations and select appropriate formulas, and proficiency in using the Nutrition Care Process.

Pay

  • Dietitian II: $60,740
  • Dietitian I: $57,850

Schedule

Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm with rotating on-call weekends.
