About the Role

Through both training and direct field ministry experience, learn how to lead and participate in effective Young Life ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Spiritual Development
    • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer, and study of God’s Word.
    • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community.
    • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
    • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Leadership Development
    • Meet with volunteer leaders and area leadership regularly.
    • Recruit and train new leaders to build a team that reflects the community.
    • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping.
    • Assist in training leaders, team leaders, and committee members on effective teamwork and yearly ministry strategy.
  • Resource Development
    • Raise financial support as directed and maintain donor care practices.
    • Communicate ministry updates and progress to donor partners.
    • Network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community (e.g., principals, pastors, parents, potential committee members).
    • Assist with camp fundraisers.
  • Direct Ministry
    • Engage in all three levels of contact work.
    • Lead a team to plan and conduct Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry.
    • Implement a summer and school-season camping strategy.
    • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
  • Ministry Support
    • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism in office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
    • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using mission-wide applications.
    • Maintain accurate records of kids, leaders, and donors.
    • Provide clear, prompt, and professional communication to all involved in ministry.
    • Set and review a yearly strategic ministry plan to reach every kid.
    • Perform other duties as assigned, congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.

Training

  • Missionwide Training
    • No required training; optional events (e.g., New Staff Training, Winter Training, Focus Conferences, Young Life University) available with regional director approval.
  • Regional Training
    • No mission-wide curriculum; regional training events may be required at the regional director’s discretion.
  • Area Training
    • Engage in training provided by area leadership.
    • Individualized training supervised by the area director to develop spiritual maturity and character.
    • Program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills (e.g., The 5 C’s).
    • Familiarize yourself with area strategy and ministry health as assigned.
    • Introduction to personal fund-raising principles, including Basic Elements for part-time staff.

Qualifications

  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • College degree preferred.
