Job Summary/Description

WTVY is looking for a Newscast/Digital Producer to join our news team. You’ll be responsible for creating, writing, and producing one or more of our daily broadcasts and digital content. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling, demonstrate a grasp of local, regional, national, and international news, and be a professional who thrives under deadline pressure.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Producing one or more daily news broadcasts and digital content, including writing, editing, and making editorial decisions about the content in each broadcast.
  • Collaborating with anchors, multimedia journalists (MMJ’s), technical media producers (TMP’s), digital producers, and newsroom leadership to create compelling broadcasts and digital content.
  • Paying attention to breaking news and routinely incorporating those items into each broadcast.
  • Understanding station and corporate-provided research to contribute to daily story assignments, live elements and digital content in each broadcast.
  • Monitoring newswires, social media and email for story ideas and updates.
  • Assist in copy editing with special attention to journalistic standards, ethical decision-making and legal guidelines.
  • Working flexible shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field is preferred, but we will consider and fast-learner with strong writing skills without formal training for our industry.
  • Demonstrate visual storytelling experience. (Can include traditional broadcast and/or digital and/or social media examples.)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local, regional, national, and international current events.
  • Current driver’s license with a clean driving record is a must.
  • Knowledge and experience with standard workplace software including Microsoft applications for email and word processing; previous experience with ENPS, EDIUS, VizRT, Flowics and BitCentral newsroom systems is preferred.
