News Producer - Part Time

About the role

WKBN is seeking an energetic entry-level producer to create content for both television newscasts and WKBN+ digital streaming platform. The role is suitable for individuals currently studying or recently completed a broadcast journalism or communications degree, seeking hands-on newsroom experience.

Responsibilities

• Help produce daily newscasts
• Contribute to WKBN+ shows
• Pitch story ideas
• Write and edit content
• Collaborate with reporters, anchors, and digital teams
• Monitor scanners, phones, emails, and digital sources to find and develop stories
• Work under deadline pressure and think creatively to create compelling content across platforms

Requirements and Qualifications

• Strong writing and communication skills
• Solid news judgment
• Ability to work independently and multitask
• Familiarity with non-linear editing a plus

Education/Experience

Ideal for students currently pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, TV/Film, or a related field, or recent graduates seeking entry-level newsroom experience. Equivalent experience and training will also be considered.

Training/Equipment

Utilize state-of-the-art television and digital production technology including OBS streaming software, and newsroom systems.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

• High-stress environment with deadline pressures
• Must be able to sit, reach, communicate clearly, write news copy, and make decisions independently
• May require lifting equipment up to 25 lbs
