Newborn Hearing Screen Technician - Temporary Per Diem

Join us in making a difference in the early detection of hearing loss in newborns as a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician. You will provide hearing screens in the hospital after a baby is born, working on-site at one or more hospital locations to screen newborns for hearing loss. At Pediatrix, you will receive on-the-job training, including annual certification accredited by the American Academy of Audiology to ensure you are adept in improving early detection of hearing impairments and encouraging timely intervention.

Responsibilities

• Perform hearing screens and provide education to parents on the relevance of hearing screens and the importance of early intervention.
• Comply with all company and facility policies and procedures, including appropriate PPE, required vaccinations, safety/security protocols, and annual compliance modules.
• Raise any questions or concerns from hospital staff and/or leadership to the Hearing Screen Manager.
• Evaluate each patient for “screen readiness” prior to performing a screen; only screen patients in an appropriate state (fed, quiet, not moving/agitated, calm) to achieve a reliable result.
• Collect all necessary data/demographics for each baby.
• Perform the hearing screen and all screen-related services on all eligible babies during each shift, ensuring documentation protocol is followed for every screen.
• Treat each screened baby (and his/her family) with care and consideration at this important developmental milestone.
• Upload all screen results, billing, and state reporting by the end of each shift; ensure stats for each screen are complete and reconciled unless otherwise instructed by the Site Supervisor.
• Perform all screens efficiently while minimizing time in the patient room without sacrificing quality, patient education, or satisfaction.
• Ensure all relevant information is provided to the responsible party, and parents/guardians receive appropriate education about the necessity of the screen and next steps.
• Notify Site Supervisor of all missed and final refer babies.
• Schedule outpatient appointments for refer babies where appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Current CPR Certification or must obtain upon offer.
• Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays required.
• One to three months of previous experience with newborns and in a medical setting preferred.

• Demonstrate sensitivity when speaking to family and handling patients.
• Computer proficiency and ability to perform accurate data entry.
