About the Role

Join us in making a difference in the early detection of hearing loss in newborns as a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician! You will provide hearing screens in the hospital after a baby is born, working on-site at one or more hospital locations. At Pediatrix, you will receive on-the-job training, including annual certification accredited by the American Academy of Audiology, to ensure you are adept at improving early detection of hearing impairments and encouraging timely intervention. This is an entry-level, per diem position located at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN. Must be available for 8AM shifts 2-3 days per week, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hearing screens and provide education to parents on the relevance of hearing screens and the importance of early intervention.
  • Comply with all company and facility policies and procedures, including PPE, required vaccinations, safety/security protocols, orientations, and annual compliance modules.
  • Evaluate each patient for “screen readiness” before performing a screen, ensuring the baby is fed, quiet, calm, and not agitated.
  • Collect necessary data/demographics for each baby and perform hearing screens on all eligible babies during each shift.
  • Ensure documentation protocol is followed for every screen and treat each baby and their family with care and consideration.
  • Upload all screen results, billing, and state reporting by the end of each shift, ensuring stats are complete and reconciled.
  • Perform screens efficiently, minimizing time in the patient room without sacrificing quality or patient education/satisfaction.
  • Provide all relevant information to the responsible party and educate parents/guardians about the screen and next steps.
  • Notify the Site Supervisor of missed and final refer babies and schedule outpatient appointments for refer babies when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Certification: Current CPR Certification or must obtain upon offer.
  • Experience: Entry-level; one to three months of previous experience with newborns and in a medical setting preferred.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work weekends and national holidays required.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand/walk frequently (95% of shift) and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Sensitivity when speaking to families and handling patients.
  • Computer proficiency and accurate data entry skills.
