New Product Launch Engineer Aurora

AUMOVIO is pioneering advanced driver assistance and autonomous trucking through a partnership with Aurora Innovation, Inc., developing the first commercially scalable autonomous trucking system in the U.S. The team designs and manufactures high-tech components for the Aurora Driver, enabling safer and more efficient freight movement. This role is based in New Braunfels, Texas.
About the role
The New Product Launch Engineer for Aurora supports the introduction of new automotive electronic products in manufacturing, from development through Start of Production (SOP) and production ramp-up, as well as product changes in series production. This role focuses on manufacturing readiness, process validation, cost control, quality requirements, and cross-functional coordination to ensure launches meet quality, timing, and financial objectives.
Responsibilities
- Ensure cost, timing, and quality of New Product Launch (NPL) activities at the location.
- Serve as the primary interface between manufacturing and design teams.
- Participate in customer communications and meetings related to NPL activities.
- Ensure compliance with Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) improvements for products.
- Support and develop group-wide metrics for NPL performance.
- Develop and install new production lines in collaboration with plant-wide support organizations.
- Drive NPL builds to completion and resolve open issues.
- Eliminate excess and obsolete material associated with new part numbers and programs.
- Implement changes in serial production, including model rollouts, hardware/software updates, and supplier/component revalidation.
- Manage project budgets from approved capital requests (ECR).
- Oversee refurbishment-related project items.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing engineering and/or quality engineering, preferably in a high-volume automotive environment.
- Experience leading engineering projects and/or new product launches.
- Familiarity with Product Life Cycle (PLC) and Project Management tools (e.g., schedules, document control, project reporting).
- Experience interfacing with automotive customers, including status reporting, requirements management, and working in customer online portals.
- Proficiency with automotive core tools: FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, 8D, and DFM.
- Experience managing project budgets and tracking expenditures.
- Ability to work with global cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills with clear written and verbal communication.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship available for this role).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Experience with SAP (ERP) and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems.
- Familiarity with process/product auditing systems (e.g., IATF, VDA, ISO) for internal and customer audits.
Work Environment
- Ability to work in a manufacturing shop floor environment.
- Must wear company-provided ESD safety-toed shoes, smock, and other PPE as required.
- Sitting or standing for 8+ hours; frequent use of hands/fingers to operate computers and office equipment.
- Ability to bend at the waist and perform repetitive foot and hand actions.
- Dexterity to operate keyboards, mice, and other technical instruments.
