New Product Development Engineer
The NPD Engineer is responsible for multiple projects driving profitable growth. Projects will vary depending on size and scope, requiring flexibility and tailored project management solutions. This role will include direct interaction with a broad range of internal senior, technical and functional leadership as well as our customers’ teams.
- Develop and execute project plans for new products
- Achieve approval of APL, QPL, and specified products
- Ensure market requirements are established and attained
- Support market growth through innovative solutions
- Responsible for day-to-day management of the project team as well as communication with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure successful project execution is met
- Ensure that projects are on schedule, on scope and on budget
- Lead project teams to ensure the quality of project deliverables match the business strategy
- Identify risks (cost, schedule) to project deliverables, clearly communicate those risks to stakeholders and develop plans to minimize those risks
- Submit capital investment requests with supporting business case justifications and drive the execution of capital projects
- Design scale up equipment to meet safety, quality, and functionality based on input from customers
- Engage with sales team for process requirements
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure equipment is reliable and meets quality and cost targets
- This activity includes design for manufacturability for new products as well as enhancements to existing equipment
- Support transition of design concepts, detailed design and product release information to manufacturing partners (internal or external)
- Provide ongoing technical/engineering oversight to manufacturing partners (internal and external)
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience OR equivalent combination of education and 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting
- A strong understanding of project management principles and software tools; PMP certification is a plus
- Strong financial skills a plus
- Subject matter expert in welding and steel technology
- Subject matter expert in mechanics, electronics and equipment controls
- Maintain broad knowledge of product design, manufacture and assembly techniques
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to take a “hands-on” approach to meeting project scope and timing including assisting project team members in completion of deliverables as needed
- Computer literate; particularly in word processing, spreadsheet, email
- Read and interpret customer specifications and industry standards
- Ability to solve practical problems and make decisions
- Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication skills
- Work with others as part of a high-performance team
- Adapt to changing work priorities
