This opportunity involves assisting with basic scientific studies, documentation, and investigations at project sites and phases, including planning, design, program management, and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Under direction of a senior Scientist, follow established methods to assist in conducting research, gathering basic scientific information and data, and performing field investigations.
  • Set up test equipment based on prescribed methodology to obtain scientific data.
  • Prepare data analysis, modeling, written reports, maps, and other deliverables using established templates to support findings related to the natural or man-made environment in the study area.
  • Assist a Senior Scientist in preparing assessments of potential effects from construction and/or operation of proposed transportation projects.
  • Maintain administrative records, collections, and files related to specific projects.
  • Stay current with trends, literature, and new developments in ecology and environmental science as they relate to your technical area of proficiency.
  • Assist the team in producing project deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or a related field.

Skills

  • Analyze and summarize data accurately (e.g., reports, wetland delineations, hazmat surveys, noise quality levels, air quality).
  • Research scientific articles and trends to summarize findings for environmental documentation and permits.
  • Assist field investigators in assessing habitat characteristics, identifying environmental concerns, and completing field surveys.
  • Apply safety procedures and best practices in the field.
  • Learn and apply established analytical methods.

What We Prefer

  • Previous or current HNTB Internship experience.
