New Grad RN Surgery Resident - Operating Room

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized institution, as a New Grad RN Surgery Resident in the operating room. You will work alongside a coach and fellow caregivers to deliver exceptional care from admission through discharge, interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors while providing education and support as needed. The role involves professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures, with access to extensive professional development resources.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on surgery core learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a coach.
• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care based on acuity, patient preference, and resource availability.
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce, or prevent risk.
• Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Document care in patients’ medical records.

Minimum qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• New graduate or less than one year RN work experience, or if experienced, transitioning from a non‑inpatient to an acute direct‑care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year of current acute direct patient‑care RN experience.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Perioperative experience.

Physical requirements

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Must stand and walk for extended periods, have corrected vision and hearing to normal range, and work under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids is possible. Medium work – exerting 20–50 lb of force occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly. Physical demands exceed those for Light Work. Personal protective equipment is used in accordance with Standard Precautions.

Pay

Minimum hourly: $35.50 – Maximum hourly: $55.60. The range reflects anticipated compensation for new hires; actual pay will consider work history, experience, skill set, and education. The range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.

Schedule

Days: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with on‑call requirements and one Saturday shift every six weeks.
