New Grad RN Resident - Thoracic Stepdown

About the Role

Join Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus, a 24-bed Thoracic Stepdown unit caring for patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including pre-cardiac catheterization, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), electrophysiological studies for arrhythmias, ICD, pacemakers, unstable angina, and post-thoracic surgical patients recovering from lobectomies, pneumonectomies, thoracoscopic bilateral lung volume reductions for emphysema, and esophagogastrectomies.

Schedule

This position involves a day/night rotation with shifts from 7:00am—7:30pm or 7:00pm—7:30am.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability).
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce, or prevent risk.
• Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Document in patients’ medical records.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• If in a Critical Care area, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within the first year of hire.
• New graduate RN or less than one year of RN work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $35.50 to $55.60 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it include the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
