About the role

This position entails applying planning strategies using various technologies and tools to gather and analyze data, assess outcomes, and develop reporting and visuals to effectively communicate findings. You will assist with tasks for planning projects, including research, studies, and documentation, and coordinate with interdisciplinary team members from concept development through project completion.

Responsibilities

• Researches and collects raw data, organizes, analyzes, and provides review of the data for use in projects and for further analysis.
• Performs project analysis using technical guidance and software.
• Assists project team members with various support tasks such as development of maps, exhibits, presentation materials, and reporting.
• Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning.
• Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
• Performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Assists in stakeholder and public participation processes.
• Maintains records, collections, and files related to specific projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field.

Skills

• Understands GIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Compiles and summarizes data (e.g., census data, land use data) with direction from more experienced staff.
• Reviews, prepares, and summarizes relevant research for more experienced staff to review.
• Contributes to reports and assists in material preparation for presentations with direction from more experienced staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
• Previous work experience in planning through an internship or prior employment.

Pay

• Washington, DC: $68,265.89 - $102,398.85
• Maryland: $62,329.74 - $93,494.60
• Virginia: $59,361.65 - $102,398.85

Actual compensation will be dependent on factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as physical work location within the state.
