About the role

The Census New Business Specialist is responsible for the new case submission process and review of sold case paperwork for completeness and accuracy in order to release the Acceptance of Risk for new business. This role also provides front-end new group business sales activity support, resolves escalated issues, interacts with Underwriting to mediate risk, assists with projects, initiatives, or process reviews, assesses risk and communicates findings with underwriting, sets up proper documentation and notifications to reinsurers and the reinsurance department, acts as a liaison between marketing, underwriting, and policy issue coders, verifies rates for accuracy with applicable commission levels and discounts, identifies sub types for commissions for specific products, knows when to communicate with commissions to establish new sub-types, validates broker licensing and appointment, and audits pricing discounts taken by Marketing to ensure compliance with MARS controls.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the new case submission process and review sold case paperwork for completeness and accuracy in order to release the Acceptance of Risk for new business.
  • Provide front-end new group business sales activity support, ensuring proper coordination with sales management, BCBS representatives, BCBS agency managers, brokers, and managing general agents, and other partners.
  • Resolve escalated issues and interact with Underwriting to mediate risk.
  • Aid with projects, initiatives, or process reviews as needed.
  • Assess risk and communicate findings with underwriting; set up proper documentation and notifications to reinsurers and the reinsurance department.
  • Act as a liaison between marketing, underwriting, and policy issue coders.
  • Verify rates for accuracy with applicable commission levels and discounts.
  • Identify sub types for commissions for specific products and know when to communicate with commissions to establish new sub-types.
  • Validate broker licensing and appointment.
  • Audit pricing discounts taken by Marketing to ensure compliance with MARS controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of insurance experience, or 6 years of insurance, marketing, or sales support experience.
  • Knowledge of sales processing and underwriting concepts.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • PC proficiency to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Organizational and analytical skills and mathematical aptitude.
  • Experience meeting tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ancillary employee benefits products and their contracts (preferred).
  • LOMA certification (preferred).
