Position Summary

This position, acting as a specialized ultrasound technologist, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of neurovascular conditions in patients, playing a central role in detecting issues related to the nervous system, including the brain and spinal column to support physicians as they diagnose medical conditions.

Core Functions

  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders.
  • Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Administers Neurology Clinic neurosonographic services, ensuring quality of performance.
  • Accountable for the oversight and application of scanning protocols and quality measures.
  • Educates patients/families regarding TCD procedures to be performed.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions.
  • Fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
  • Performs high quality images and presents them for timely interpretation, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Performs exams and imaging duties by providing preliminary clinical findings to the supervising physicians.
  • Also provides valuable and timely preliminary findings to the Neurologists and Neurosurgeons.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors.
  • Adheres to all safety policies.
  • Accounts for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all work information.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Performs high level disinfecting in accordance with manufacturers and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Neurosonography for the Neurology department.
  • May act as a clinical resource to staff and students, as well as train new staff and students in sonographic techniques, with focus on the Neurological Imaging.
  • May provide Neurovascular-related education to Banner Health staff and cardiac sonography students.
  • Maintains competency in Transcranial Doppler (TCD) for initial onboarding.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved ultrasonography program.
  • Nationally Registered Vascular Technologist with experience in Neurovascular Sonography.
  • Active and current Neurovascular Sonographer certification (NVS) by the American Society of Neuroimaging is required.
  • Two years of experience working in Neurovascular Sonography.
  • - OR -
  • MD plus USMLE with experience or training in Neurology with the expectation of obtaining a Neurovascular Specialist (NVS) Certification or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) within 12 months of hire date.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Neurovascular anatomy and physiology is required for all candidates.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
