Neurosurgery (Instructor - Nurse Practitioner)

Job Duties

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care for neurosurgical patients in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows, and residents
  • Conduct pre-round chart reviews, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, and perform independent rounding as appropriate
  • Obtain detailed histories and perform neurological-focused physical examinations
  • Formulate assessments and management plans for neurosurgical conditions (e.g., post-operative spine/cranial cases, trauma, ICU patients)
  • Order, interpret, and follow diagnostic studies (CT, MRI, labs, neuro-monitoring, etc.)
  • Care for daily care plans, including post-operative management, pain control, and complication monitoring
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the EMR (Epic)
  • Perform or assist with bedside procedures within scope (e.g., wound care, drain management, basic procedural support as trained)
  • Manage discharge planning, including patient education and coordination with care teams
  • Maintain accurate and timely progress notes reflecting neurosurgical patient status, interventions, and outcomes
  • Care for coordination of inpatient care across ICU, step-down, and floor units for neurosurgery patients
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with nursing, case management, therapy services, and consulting teams
  • Monitor post-operative neurosurgical patients and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding neurosurgical conditions, treatments, and recovery expectations
  • Support and assist in onboarding/training PA/NP students, residents, and learners as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Board certification by appropriate certifying organization
  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in the State of Texas
  • DEA certification
  • PREFERRED: Experience in neurosurgery, inpatient medicine, ICU, or surgical subspecialty.
