Neuromuscular Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellow

About the role

The fellowship is a 6-month neuromuscular subspecialty training program starting August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Participate in clinic with staff physician, seeing both pediatric and adult patients with neuromuscular disorders.
• Attend multi-disciplinary clinics including spasticity evaluation, spina bifida, early motor delay, neuromuscular upper extremity, and muscular dystrophy clinics.
• Work with Gillette physiatrist physicians in Botox and Phenol injections.
• Observe neurosurgery team in performing selective dorsal rhizotomies and baclofen pump implantations (upon interest).
• Engage in didactic teaching in morning conferences.
• Participate in formal gait analysis interpretation certification with gait lab physicians, physical therapists, and engineers.
• Collaborate with orthopaedic surgery residents in the outpatient clinic and operating room to enhance learning experiences.

Qualifications

• Prior to appointment, fellow should have successfully completed an ACGME accredited (or equivalent) residency in orthopaedic surgery and a POSNA or ACGME accredited fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.
• Fellow must be eligible for/obtain a physician/surgeon Minnesota Medical License.
• Skills in patient evaluation, surgical technique, communication, and documentation as obtained through successful completion of an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) residency in orthopaedic surgery and a POSNA or ACGME accredited fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery are required.

Benefits

Benefits will be provided by Gillette Children’s Hospital. Compensation will be at the level of a PGY-6 trainee in the state of Minnesota for the 6-month tenure.
