Job Summary

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Nurse to function as a member of the neurology triage team. This position is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients via phone or patient portal.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phone management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
  • Discusses patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record.
  • Provides patient/family education surrounding common neurological conditions.
  • Communicates adjustments in treatment plan to families.
  • Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient's record.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals.
  • Communicates adjustments or changes in treatment plans to patient/family.
  • Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs.
  • Communicates lab & other test results to families.
  • Provides medication refills.
  • Aids providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
  • Works closely with triage team to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
  • Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
  • Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
  • Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
  • Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.

Qualifications

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
  • Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.

Pay and Schedule

Pay Rate Range: $32.14 - $38.31 Work Schedule Summary: Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day with availability from 7:00 am – 5:30 pm. Opportunities for a compressed 4-day, 10-hour schedule may be available after completing initial training periods, depending on operational needs and supervisor approval. Opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule may be considered after the initial training period, provided the arrangement is supported by operational needs and individual performance. Telework arrangements are not guaranteed and may be modified or discontinued at any time based on business requirements or performance.
