Key Responsibilities
- Provides inpatient and outpatient neurological care by examining, diagnosing, and treating disorders of the nervous system.
- Performs neurological examinations of the nerves of the head & neck; muscle strength and movement; balance, ambulation, and reflexes; and sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities.
- Manages core neurological diseases including demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, epilepsy, headache and migraine, movement disorders, polyneuropathies, spinal cord disorders, cognitive dysfunction, and genetic diseases with a primarily neurologic manifestation.
- Performs and reads diagnostic tests such as EEG, EMG/NCV, VEP, and BAEP.
- Identifies and manages pathological blood conditions and prescribes relevant medications and drugs.
- Counsels patients or others on the background of neurological disorders, including risk factors, genetic or environmental concerns, and refers patients to other health care practitioners as necessary.
- Advises other physicians on the treatment of neurological problems and prescribes or administers medications, such as anti-epileptic drugs, and monitors patients for behavioral and cognitive side effects.
- Prepares, maintains, or reviews records that include patients' histories, neurological examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
- Orders supportive care services such as physical therapy, specialized nursing care, and social services.
Requirements
- A Medical degree and the successful completion of a residency and fellowship in Neurology from an accredited institute.
- Home country license and certification to practice Neurology.
- Active DOH license as Consultant Neurology or equivalent.
- Experience working in a clinical setting with a proven track record.
- Manual dexterity necessary to complete procedures and patient examinations.
- Ability to concentrate for extended lengths of time.
- Tolerance for frequent interruptions and accommodation to changing work priorities.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Good command in written and spoken English, with Arabic fluency being an advantage.
- Presentable and pleasing personality.
- Proactive and approachable.
- Physical activities to include standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, stretching, stooping, and repetitive movements.
