Neurodiagnostic Tech II - EMG (24hrs per wk)(Part-time)

UTMB EMU is growing and looking for a team of excited, driven individuals to join us! The epilepsy program includes Phase I EMU, Phase II sEEG, ECOG, Wada, Ictal Spect, ICU LTM and will continue to offer the latest and most innovative testing in the field of epilepsy. UTMB EMU is currently level 3 and in the process of advancing to level 4 in the near future. We have routine epilepsy surgery conferences for in-depth learning. Our team encourages education and promotes registration through ASET membership and classes as well as on-the-job training. You can also be part of the exciting research being conducted in the department.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) or related program or equivalent.
• Three years of experience performing procedures in area of competence.
• Credentialed through a UTMB-approved agency in R. EEG T., CNIM, R.NCS.T., R. EP.T., or CLTM.
• Current BLS certification.

Preferred: EMG experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical skills necessary to perform one or more electroneurodiagnostic procedures: electroencephalogram (EEG), intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), long-term monitoring (LTM), evoked potential (EP), and nerve conduction studies (NCV).
• Serve as preceptor and mentor for Neurodiagnostic Technologist I.
• Establish lab protocols according to American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) Guidelines.
• Participate in tutoring, demonstrating, and mentoring other team members.
• Perform electroneurodiagnostic studies as per written protocols.
• Explain procedures to patients, elicit and record medical history from patient and/or chart.
• Apply standard scalp electrodes to meet the standard 10/20 placement.
• Record studies and independently make alterations to the test protocol based on history and ongoing study.
• Recognize normal and abnormal variants in study recordings and act accordingly.
• Recognize and correct electrical and electronic malfunctions.
• Monitor and review raw study and video data.
• Prepare completed hard copies of neurodiagnostic studies for interpretation.
• Complete the “Technician Impression” sheet, which serves as the preliminary report.
• Edit and archive EEG and video data of patients’ Video/EEG monitoring.
• Competently perform routine inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic procedures.
• Set up and provide assistance with area-specific neurodiagnostic procedures.
• Ensure patient safety related to age and condition.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
• Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment, free of obstacles, and conducive to a professional setting.
• Maintain isolation procedures and follow infection control measures.
• Maintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies and equipment; notify senior staff when equipment is missing or broken.
• Assist with patient requests for other hospital services.
