Neurodiagnostic Specialist II

About the role

This position is 36 hours a week, nightshift. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is an advanced level specialist position responsible for all duties of the Neurodiagnostic Specialist I, plus independently performing advanced neurophysiologic procedures including intraoperative corticoelectroencephalography, intraoperative cortical stimulation, and intraoperative evoked cortical potential procedures. The role also involves training EEG Technologists/EEG externs in all neurophysiologic procedures for the inpatient EEG monitoring unit, including Phase 1 surface electroencephalographic studies, Phase 2 subdural studies, and other studies as required by the Neurodiagnostic Manager and/or Medical Director. The specialist must be able to work independently under the supervision of the EEG Manager and/or Medical Director.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties of the Neurodiagnostic Technologist I and Neurodiagnostic Specialist I, including routine EEGs, ambulatory EEGs, research EEGs, magnetoencephalography, and long-term monitoring (LTM) studies.
• Prepares patients and families for Video/EEG studies and performs Video/EEG studies.
• Calibrates equipment and makes necessary adjustments; checks all observed and computer-detected seizures.
• Prepares daily readings for physician analysis and makes master copies of all patient events.
• Organizes patient files, reports, and seizure logs; coordinates procedures with neurologists, nurse practitioners, and staff nurses.
• Provides maintenance and quality assurance for Video/EEG and ambulatory equipment.
• Performs routine and portable EEGs, ambulatory/VAMB studies, and maintains a flexible schedule to meet patient care needs.
• Conducts intraoperative neurophysiologic procedures and assists neurophysiologists in procedures including cortical electroencephalography and intraoperative cortical stimulation.
• Maintains intraoperative equipment in optimal working condition; creates patient-specific montages; wraps the head of surgical patients.
• Trains junior and senior EEG Technologists in Video/EEG, LTM, electrocorticography, cortical stimulation, and intraoperative surgical procedures.
• Performs bedside electroencephalographic studies including motor strip mapping and language mapping.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical Diploma in EEG Technology preferred.
• Associate's Degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications

• At least five (5) years of prior EEG experience preferred.
• At least two (2) years of pediatric EEG experience preferred.
• At least three (3) years of EEG experience in video EEG working in an LTM unit preferred.

• Knowledge of medical terminology and protocol.
• Working knowledge of MS Word or equivalent software.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (EEG) – American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) required upon hire.

Pay

Salary range: $42.18 – $47.44 hourly. Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs; part-time pay will be adjusted accordingly. Factors such as skills and experience could result in an offer above the salary range noted.
