About the role

Join the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring department at University of Chicago Medical Center as a Neurodiagnostic Specialist I. This is a 100% onsite position based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for routine, complex, and long-term AV/EEG monitoring, as well as perform NCV’s and assist with EMG’s.
  • Perform data management by clipping, pruning, archiving, and purging EEG data after the final report is signed by the attending.
  • Conduct at least two of the following specialty procedures/testing:
    • Intracranial EEG set-up and recording from implanted electrodes.
    • Assist the physician with stimulation via intracranial electrodes.
    • ECOG and DBS recordings in the operating room.
    • Recording in the radiology suite during a WADA test.
  • Identify abnormalities (e.g., ictal, inter-ictal, paroxysmal activity, and non-epileptic behavioral events) and clip, prune, and archive these as separate files per institutional SOP.
  • Alert appropriate medical staff immediately of any EEG studies requiring urgent attention or additional support for interpretation, including seizures and other critical events captured on video.
  • Perform intraoperative electrocorticography, cortical stimulation, DBS recordings, and intra-carotid sodium amobarbital (Wada) studies with minimal assistance.
  • Participate in all aspects of subdural/stereo-EEG monitoring, including electrode connections, montage creation/verification, troubleshooting stimulation for cortical mapping, and disconnection.
  • Maintain monitoring equipment in excellent operating condition, detect instrument and computer malfunctions, correct problems when possible, and notify the supervisor.
  • Train and assist junior technologists as needed.
  • Attend clinical conferences to maintain credentials and certifications, and update knowledge base and skillset.
  • Participate in the development and revision of center policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the ASET online course, LTM 100, titled Introduction to LTM for EMU Personnel.
  • CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • EEG Technologist registration (R. EEG T.) or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience performing standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to perform two of the four modalities: ICU EEG, NCV, Intracranial, and ECoG.
  • Possess ASET competency skills and knowledge required by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for national board certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or graduation from an Electroneurodiagnostic Technology program.

Schedule

  • Full-time regular position (0.9 FTE).
  • Day shift.
