About the Role

The Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NDA) supports Registered EEG Technologists and physicians in performing inpatient and EMU electroencephalographic (EEG) procedures. This is an internal on-the-job training position that assists with patient preparation, equipment setup, and monitoring EEG data to ensure accurate recordings and patient well-being in both routine and continuous EEG settings.

NDAs act as first responders, working alongside credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologists (R. EEG T. or CLTM) to ensure patient safety and effective care. NDAs continuously monitor patients undergoing cEEG recording for safety, either in-room or via remote video monitoring, and possess knowledge of monitoring system and camera controls. They alert nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur, communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain event information, and may document observations.

The Neurodiagnostic Assistant is not qualified to analyze EEG data but may assist Neurodiagnostic technologists as needed (e.g., restocking supplies, electrode removal and disinfection). Completes hospital training to alert supervisors and/or activate hospital systems such as rapid response or cardiac arrest per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient preparation and equipment setup for EEG procedures.
• Monitor EEG data to ensure accurate recordings and patient well-being in routine and continuous EEG settings.
• Act as a first responder alongside credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologists to ensure patient safety.
• Continuously monitor patients undergoing cEEG recording, either in-room or via remote video monitoring.
• Alert nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur.
• Communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain information about events.
• Document observations as needed.
• Assist Neurodiagnostic technologists with tasks such as restocking supplies, electrode removal, and disinfection.
• Complete hospital training to activate rapid response, cardiac arrest, or other hospital systems per established protocols.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of or current enrollment in an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program or completion of LTM 100 Introduction to LTM for EMU Personnel.
• No previous experience required; in-house training provided, including 20 clinical observation hours and successful completion of didactic course (LTM 100).
• Must complete competency assessments, including recognition of clinical seizures and other paroxysmal events, ictal testing procedures, measures to reduce fall risk, and seizure first aid.
• Must enroll in an accredited program within six months of hire unless qualifying for an EEG Technician I role under ABRET pathways.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required within two weeks of hire; must maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
• ABRET EEG registry eligibility or intent to pursue certification within two years is required.

Pay

Hourly pay, Health-20 pay grade.

Schedule

24 scheduled weekly hours.
