About the role
Assists with the administration, planning and management of the configuration, installation and maintenance of the credit union’s local area network and wide area network (LAN/WAN), web filtering appliances, network analyzers, firewalls, switches, TCP/IP protocols and other network communications systems and services.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the design, installation and maintenance of the network architecture.
- Performs network administration, analysis, and planning, to include VLANS, network appliances, routers, and switches.
- Assists in the installation and deployment of telecommunication equipment at remote locations.
- Works with third party vendors to coordinate, deploy and maintain communication equipment at remote locations.
- Assists with the administration of Web filtering, DNS / DHCP, and WAN optimization appliances.
- Consults with administrators and third party vendors to design and implement cohesive architecture that sufficiently mitigates risk to the company, applying security principles and best practices that meet business objectives.
- Analyzes business and security requirements to develop technical network solutions. Implements security requirements controls, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
- Maintains performance of firewalls, routers and switches; analyzes, troubleshoots and resolves network related issues; performing detailed network traffic and packet capture analysis.
- Troubleshoots, identifies and isolates causes of systems and equipment problems and failures and determines timely solutions; works with users and other infrastructure staff to correct problems and document solutions.
- Participates in the analysis, evaluation and assessment tasks required for purchase and implementation of network and telecommunication hardware and software. Researches, evaluates and orders software based on user specifications; works directly with vendors to test and purchase new hardware and software; develops policies and procedures and participates in installing, configuring and running software and hardware; develops and manages annual budget for network systems.
- Utilizes change management, request, and ticketing systems, documents status updates and problem resolutions.
- Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing network infrastructures and participating in professional associations.
Requirements

- Education Requirements: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree - Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related field - Required
- Professional certification such as Comp TIA Network+ or Comp TIA Security+ - Preferred
- Experience Requirement: 1 Year - Progressively responsible experience in the development and oversight of network administration - Required
- Understanding and progressive experience with the deployment of networking equipment and monitoring techniques - Required
- Knowledge of Information Security principles and practice - Required
Qualifications
- Effectively apply internal and external customer service practices and processes to meet quality service standards and achieve member satisfaction.
- Network architectures and theory and principles of network design and integration, including topologies and protocols.
- Apply principles, practices, methods, tools and utilities of systems/network administration and maintenance and for the installation, configuration and operation of network systems, hardware and devices.
- Utilize methods and techniques for performing connectivity testing and troubleshooting, including the uses of diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Apply programming theory and languages applicable to RFCU’s platform/network operating systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex and ambiguous hardware, software and connectivity problems. Resolve problems utilizing advanced knowledge and experience.
- Learn and apply information, on a wide range of Credit Union products, services and regulatory compliance requirements, in order to assess member situations and develop solutions.
- Communicate in a professional manner and deliver information clearly and effectively. Actively listen to questions, opinions and ideas of others. Use tact and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
- Use correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Operate computers and use business software and other standard office equipment.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Physical Demands
- Intermittent standing, sitting, walking, bending and climbing.

- Good hearing, in regular proximity and in louder work environments including but not limited to; warning signals and operating equipment sounds.
- Intermittent lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Good vision, including but not limited to; close and long vision, depth perception and ability to distinguish color and shades.
Work Environment
- Provides on-call technical assistance on a 24x7 basis.
- Works in a typical technology office environment.
- Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends or holidays.
