About the role

ByteDance Networking designs, builds, and operates a global, intelligent network infrastructure that meets the highest standards of availability, scalability, and performance. Within this organization, the Network Observability R&D Team plays a pivotal role by leveraging advanced network technologies to monitor data center networks in real-time, detect and locate network faults, and improve network availability and efficiency. This team is building an industry-leading data center autopilot system.

As an intern, you will participate in developing observation systems that support ByteDance's global platform, gaining practical experience in large-scale software development and network operations. This internship offers hands-on experience, industry exposure, and opportunities to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges while building a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. Interns will explore potential career paths, participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve data center network monitoring services, and optimize network data collection, processing, and visualization tools.
  • Create network alert systems using trained learning algorithms to provide real-time and accurate anomaly detection and fault location.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to develop an automated network fault diagnosis system based on LLM capabilities, and provide troubleshooting and analysis services for enterprises.
  • Develop a network data platform based on network metadata, providing metrics that accurately reflect the status and trends of the network in real-time.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures; proficient in at least one programming language, including but not limited to C, C++, Python, or Go.
  • Basic understanding of network protocols and the TCP/IP protocol stack.
  • Familiar with basic knowledge of operating systems and the Linux operating system; able to use the Linux command line freely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in network software or protocol development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in software debugging and troubleshooting.

Pay

The hourly rate for this internship position is $45.
