About the role
The Network Security Cyber Engineer will work with a team of Network Security Engineers to design, build, and maintain the enterprise network for DoD health services. Through collaboration with Software Engineers, Network Engineers, and SMEs across multiple teams, they will create technology to streamline infrastructure operations and deployments. The candidate must be intuitive to anticipate needs and understand how people, culture, and processes work together to impact their role, filling technology gaps with expert care.
This engineer must be highly motivated, self-driven, forward-thinking, and results-oriented, developing a detailed understanding of enterprise cyber design concepts and associated technologies to provide a secure, reliable, fault-tolerant network supporting a large enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Development, configuration, implementation, and testing of multiple network security platforms to streamline network security operations.
- Develop security framework to couple with other internal technology standards.
- Work with multiple engineering teams to incorporate security infrastructure provisioning into security deployment pipelines.
- Develop validation and testing procedures around network systems.
- Manage development of complex security solutions to work with existing and new security technologies.
- Mentor fellow Network Security Engineers on automation techniques and best practices.
- Create, maintain, and update documentation of network security systems.
- Serve as the Senior Technical SME in Cyber Security.
- Provide architecture and design of environment for threat intelligence into countermeasures to detect and prevent intrusions and malware infestation.
- Provide architecture and design of environment for identifying threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures, developing custom signatures and blocks based on indicators.
- Interact with the CSSP for incident response, recovery, and prevention.
- Collaborate with Engineering, SOC, and NOC personnel to maximize cyber threat prevention measures, enhance audit and logging standards, and enforce and monitor effective cyber security policies and configurations within the logging and SIEM infrastructure.
- Lead technical implementation of core Security Intelligence concepts.
- Apply advanced knowledge of enterprise network components and their contribution to Security Intelligence.
- Utilize tools and techniques to efficiently identify trends and extract indicators from large data sources.
- Understand and control adversary intrusion steps, identifying and creating mitigations for the Cyber Kill Chain grid.
- Understand Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) concepts, including how APT differs from traditional cyber threats, specific intrusion techniques used by APT adversaries, and methods to prevent or identify APT intrusions.
- Apply key networking concepts relevant to the Security Intelligence process.
- Understand and work with key forensics and incident response concepts critical to the Security Intelligence process.
- Work with various categories of electronic evidence, including media, email, and networks.
- Study the detection and prevention of intrusion and attacks.
- Understand structured digital evidence collection and evaluation.
- Understand concepts of packet analysis.
- Navigate the command line using specific expressions to manipulate data.
- Handle and organize disparate data about detections, attacks, and attackers.
- Apply discovery techniques and vet new intelligence.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field or equivalent experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- OS certification requirement (CCNA or higher).
- 8570 Requirement: Engineering – IAT Level II (One of CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, or SSCP), able to obtain both OS and Security Certifications.
- Experience with computer network defense technologies.
- Experience with threat actor TTP and indicator identification using large data sources.
- Ability to work well under pressure with differing levels of management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and communications.
- Exposure to other network monitoring systems and IT Service Management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CSSP, DoD, DHA customers.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively translate and communicate complex technical information and risk to all levels of internal and external organizations.
- Experience working under pressure with differing levels of team members and management.
- Experience with classified and unclassified networks.
- Customer service-focused with a track record of delivering sustained high levels of customer satisfaction.

Pay
Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $145,000.00 USD annually.
