Network Monitor Specialist

About the Role

Leidos is seeking a Network Monitor Specialist to support efforts for the NMCI/SMIT program, providing network engineering support for planning, designing, and evaluating components of the Navy’s NMCI network. The role is part of the Service Management, Integration, and Transport portion of SMIT, delivering the core backbone of the Navy‑Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport.

Responsibilities

• Monitor events and incidents that affect server and service health across the Enterprise, documenting outage information and actions taken.
• Utilize internal systems to report incidents to leadership.
• Take escalations of significant alerts/events and perform initial assessment and triage.
• Engage appropriate processes and personnel for escalations outside the Operations Center.
• Provide support to Site Operations and external organizations through problem‑resolution skills and independent decision‑making.
• Maintain a response time of five minutes or less to network‑infrastructure warning, critical, and fatal event alerts.
• Ensure the Critical Situation Manager is apprised of all details regarding significant events or incidents.

Required Qualifications

• 1‑4 years of prior relevant experience.
• U.S. citizen with DoD Secret clearance.
• 8570 compliant, meeting the IAT level certification requirements.
• Familiarity with ITIL best practices (ITIL Foundations).
• Knowledge of enterprise tools for event management, incident management, and performance management.
• Experience working in a DoD environment and understanding of customer communication.
• Experience in a data‑center environment.
• Ability to perform well under pressure and calm end users.
• Hands‑on experience with DoD networks, including NIPR and SIPR.
• Willingness to perform shift work (Shift 2: Sunday‑Tuesday and every other Wednesday, 1800‑0600 EDT).

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior military experience (USMC or USN) preferred.
• IT experience in the military.
• Experience with networking technologies and data centers.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication, including long‑form business writing on complex topics.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Ability to define program goals and roadmaps based on customer needs and strategic direction.
• Experience working in a matrix organization and communicating status effectively to peers, subordinates, and leadership.
• Motivated self‑starter with strong communication skills and ability to create complex technical reports.

Pay

$26‑$29 per hour.

Schedule

Shift 2: Sunday through Tuesday and every other Wednesday, 1800 to 0600 EDT.
