About the role
This position involves installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure supporting FAA operations within a federal aviation environment. The role requires ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of IP-based networks across multiple locations in the Cleveland, Ohio region. The individual will support mission-critical systems and contribute to national safety initiatives through network stability and security.
Responsibilities
- Ensure continuous uptime, optimal performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Support SD-WAN solutions across distributed environments.
- Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
- Perform fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools to ensure quality and performance.
- Monitor systems daily, analyze logs, and respond promptly to incidents.
- Troubleshoot network issues related to fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers, escalating as needed.
- Support network cutovers, migrations, and failover testing to ensure seamless operations.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configuration records for reference and audits.
- Assist with network infrastructure upgrades and support long-term federal network modernization efforts.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship required by federal law.
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination (Masters 6+, Associates 10+, HS diploma 12+).
- Proven experience managing and supporting enterprise network environments.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking hardware.
- Experience with TDM-to-IP migrations and current IP-based networking technology.
- Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, and wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
- Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and schematics.
- Experience with fiber testing tools such as OTDR.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Pay
Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 – $65.00 hourly
Schedule
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
