Responsibilities
- Respond to NOC-dispatched tickets for outages, degraded service, and customer-impacting issues at MDU properties, meeting defined response and restoration SLAs.
- Troubleshoot independently across Layer 1 and Layer 2 issues including copper, coax, fiber, switches, and access points; resolve the majority of incidents without NOC escalation.
- Perform fiber-optic work including identification, handling, cleaning, and basic testing using light meters and OTDR equipment.
- Install, align, and commission point-to-point (PTP) wireless links between MDU buildings, roof-to-roof shots, and inter-property connections.
- Adopt and stage Juniper access points and switches into the appropriate management platforms; perform Ruckus and Juniper Mist AP installation, configuration, and basic management.
- Conduct post-installation testing and validation including speed tests, wireless coverage walks, and video signal verification.
- Use managed switch CLI for show and diagnostic commands; assist with VLAN, port, and PoE-level troubleshooting.
- Cook up and coordinate live with the NOC during dispatch and on-site work; provide clear status updates and confirm restoration before clearing the site.
- Escalate controller-level configuration changes, complex routing or BGP issues, and carrier-circuit faults to Network Engineering with complete, accurate field data.
- Maintain and update site documentation including rack diagrams, cable labeling, AP location maps, and as-built records following each visit.
- Serve as on-site lead on multi-tech dispatches when assigned; mentor Tech I and Tech II staff in the field.
- Manage assigned vehicle inventory, test equipment, and spares; keep tools calibrated, stocked, and in good working order.
- Interact professionally with property management, building staff, and residents.
- Comply with all company safety procedures including ladder, lift, electrical, ESD, and confined-space practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency dispatches as scheduled.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in ISP/MSP, telecom, or structured cabling environments, including fiber and PTP work.
- Intermediate working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, and basic routing concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to terminate, test, and certify CAT5e/CAT6 cabling at an advanced level.
- Hands-on experience with fiber identification, handling, and basic testing.
- Proven independent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis ability in the field.
- Hands-on experience with Ruckus and Juniper Mist access points; ability to adopt and stage Juniper APs and switches.
- Comfort with managed switch CLI for show and diagnostic commands.
- Comfort working in IDF/MDF closets, ceiling spaces, and on ladders or lifts; ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to be insured under the company vehicle policy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear ticket notes and as-built updates.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual preferred.
- Direct experience servicing MDU, hospitality, student housing, or other multi-tenant network environments.
- Fiber-optic certifications such as BICSI Installer with fiber endorsement or Fluke fiber-test certification.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Ruckus WISE/RASZA, or Juniper Mist AI.
- Familiarity with documentation and monitoring tools such as NetBox, LibreNMS, PRTG, or vendor cloud dashboards.
- Familiarity with Ekahau or comparable wireless survey tools.
