What YOU will do
- Maintains smooth operation of voice and data networks.
- Plans, evaluates, coordinates, and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
- Works in developing technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors etc.
- Works with network management software platforms.
- May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings aligning with future requirements factoring in redundancy and required network uptime.
- Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions, technical diagrams, and other documentation.
- Where no documentation exists, assists in developing documentation.
- Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
- Affords coordination of third-party maintenance for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support.
- Willingness and availability to work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
- Must be able to work with general supervision and follow established procedures.
Qualifications YOU Must Have
- Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree.
- Active, In-Scope and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Certifications in Security+ within 6 months and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is highly desired within a year.
- Experience in configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and/or intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
- Experience with current cabling and fiber standards.
- Experience with access control list, security posture, and vendor best practices.
- Experience with Visio diagramming and design capabilities.
- 1-2 years of experience with network management software.
- Willingness and availability to travel domestically as needed.
- Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of encryption devices.
- Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communications.
- Experience with platforms such as IP telephony, NTP servers, GemOne, and SolarWinds.
- Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
