Network Engineer II

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer II - Optical to join our team remotely in the USA on a full-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, engineering, and implementing capacity enhancements onto our existing DWDM network infrastructure. Your expertise will support the expansion and optimization of Zayo’s optical network, ensuring high performance and reliability. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, including project management, operations, and sales, to coordinate capacity fulfillment and deliver exceptional service to our customers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of optical systems, network design, and project execution, with a focus on meeting or exceeding performance targets and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design planning, record creation, and capacity fulfillment across the U.S. and Canadian networks
• Collaborate with Project Managers to deliver service requirements effectively to customers
• Design DWDM network architectures aligned with standards and future growth projections
• Implement DWDM wave circuit designs for core network expansion and upgrades
• Create Engineering Design Packages that are clear and actionable for Operations teams
• Provide timely updates on project status, service deliverables, and due dates to stakeholders
• Review capacity requests for accuracy and clarify design-related issues with responsible departments
• Maintain customer commitments and deadlines within the designated systems such as Salesforce
• Support field operations by resolving provisioning issues and verifying technical data
• Forecast and manage budgets related to capacity expansion and equipment procurement
• Secure quotes from optical vendors, order equipment, and coordinate installation activities
• Write scopes of work for equipment installation and moves from inventory to field deployment
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills
• Manage workload effectively, prioritize critical issues, and address obstacles within order flow
• Participate in operations-related projects and support escalations as needed
• Stay updated on emerging network technologies and cross-train in related areas

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education, training, and experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of telecommunications and/or data networking experience
• Working knowledge of optical systems and signal flow designs through fixed or flex grid networks using ROADM technology
• Experience with optical products such as Fuji, Adva, Ciena, Cisco, Infinera, Nokia
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office or Google programs, including Visio, Excel, or equivalents
• Experience with project management software and telecom inventory systems like Salesforce, ServiceNow, Sitetracker, and Metasolv (preferred)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Familiarity with network design standards and capacity planning processes
• Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis (no visa sponsorship provided)
