Network Engineer (CCNP or CCNA)

12+ month contract role in Lincoln, NE – local candidates only, no relocation assistance.

About the role

Seeking a senior Network Engineer to mentor systems engineers and oversee the planning, design, development, optimization, documentation, maintenance, and performance of the statewide (wide-area) core network.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level technical support for core network routing and maintenance.
• Install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair core network hardware.
• Coordinate multiple networking projects across agencies, including installations and decommissions.
• Evaluate network systems for patches, upgrades, and future technical needs.
• Develop and maintain procedures, create documentation, and assist clients and IT staff.
• Mentor, train, and guide fellow engineers.

Requirements

• CCNP or CCNA certification.
• 7+ years installing and configuring large-scale core network equipment, including Cisco ASR 1000 and 9000 series.
• Extensive knowledge of IT theory, principles, and practices.
• Working knowledge of enterprise network devices.
• Ability to write clear, concise system and procedure documentation.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects across an enterprise network.
• Ability to read and apply technical manuals.

Skills

• Installing/configuring Cisco ASR 1000/9000 series, Cisco DWDM, and Nexus.
• Implementing disaster recovery plans.
• Core routing principles and practices.
• Client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications.
• Troubleshooting data networks and using network troubleshooting tools.
• Delivering responsive, quality customer service.

Pay

$65.00/hour (W2) or $73.00/hour (incorporated).

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility for sudden issues and planned system updates.
