Network Engineer
Duration: 12-Week Contract • Location: Tampa, FL Area (100% Onsite)
Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer to support infrastructure modernization efforts across multiple sites in the Tampa area. This role will focus on evaluating network power requirements, recommending and implementing switch upgrades, conducting wireless assessments, and designing backup power solutions to ensure network reliability and performance.
Responsibilities
- Network Infrastructure
- Evaluate existing network environments and recommend switch upgrades based on current and future capacity needs.
- Assess network performance, connectivity, and hardware requirements across multiple locations.
- Configure and support Cisco switching environments, including VLANs and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
- Analyze port density, uplink requirements, and overall network performance demands.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) Design
- Calculate power requirements for devices including VoIP phones, wireless access points, and security cameras.
- Design and validate PoE budgets using IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at, and 802.3bt standards.
- Ensure switches can support device power requirements without oversubscription.
- Plan for power redundancy and high-availability network environments.
- UPS & Power Backup Solutions Design
- Design UPS and battery backup strategies for network infrastructure.
- Calculate wattage and VA requirements for network switches and connected devices.
- Develop outage runtime plans for critical network services.
- Recommend UPS solutions with remote monitoring and management capabilities.
- Wireless Assessments
- Travel to sites throughout the Greater Tampa Bay Area to perform wireless assessments and infrastructure evaluations.
- Validate wireless coverage, capacity, and performance requirements.
- Identify coverage gaps and recommend improvements to support end-user and business application needs.
- Document findings and provide infrastructure recommendations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or Network Architect.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco networking technologies and enterprise switching.
- Experience with PoE power budgeting and switch selection.
- Knowledge of UPS systems, battery backup solutions, and power redundancy planning.
- Experience configuring VLANs and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel regularly between locations throughout the Tampa Bay area.
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNP certification.
- Experience with enterprise wireless environments.
- Knowledge of network, server, storage, and application architecture.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $43.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
