About the Role

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and securing the institution's network infrastructure to support teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations. This role ensures reliable connectivity across campus locations, data centers, wireless networks, and cloud-based services while maintaining high standards of network performance, security, and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain the institution's wired and wireless network infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity to ensure uninterrupted access to academic and administrative systems.
  • Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless access points.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity, performance, and security issues.
  • Support campus-wide Wi-Fi services for students, faculty, staff, and guests.
  • Implement network security measures, including firewalls, network segmentation, access controls, and intrusion prevention.
  • Maintain network documentation, including topology diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to support learning management systems, student information systems, cloud services, and other institutional applications.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades, equipment replacements, and maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, cybersecurity standards, and applicable privacy and data protection regulations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to IT staff and assist with complex network-related incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in network engineering or network administration.
  • Experience managing enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and network security technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or equivalent networking technologies.
  • Experience supporting cloud networking environments is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCNA or CCNP certification
  • CompTIA Network+ certification
  • Fortinet NSE or equivalent certification
  • Aruba Certified Professional (ACP)
  • Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS certification

Skills

  • Strong understanding of enterprise network architecture and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in a multi-campus or enterprise environment.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing reliable technology services that support student success and institutional operations.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment with occasional work in data centers, communication rooms, and campus facilities.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to perform scheduled maintenance or respond to critical incidents.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.
