As a Network Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in designing, building, securing, and evolving the network infrastructure that keeps our organization connected and running at its best. You’ll work across LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless environments, with a primary focus on Meraki, supporting multiple data centers and remote locations across the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks, and maintain appropriate network monitoring tools
  • Coordinate ISP and network installations at new and existing territories
  • Develop and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, inventory, and change management procedures
  • Monitor network performance, identify and resolve network issues, and proactively address potential problems primarily on WiFi environments
  • Plan and execute network upgrades and enhancements, including hardware and software upgrades and network capacity planning
  • Manage and maintain network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other security technologies
  • Work collaboratively with other Business Technology professionals, including site reliability engineers, software developers, and security specialists, to ensure that network infrastructure is integrated with other BT systems and services
  • Provide guidance and mentorship across the BT organization, sharing knowledge and offering assistance
  • Stay current with emerging network technologies and trends and recommend changes to improve network performance, security, and reliability
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of each data center’s architecture and supporting infrastructure elements & vendors
  • Provide thoughtful input on design and improvement in regard to survivability and scalability of Power’s data center infrastructure
  • Shape SRE standards, operating procedures, and coding practices
  • Provide technical leadership to assigned primary SRE team and other teams across the BT Services Unit
  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies, code reviews, and provide written feedback for performance reviews
  • Test work prior to implementation and actively review others' work

Requirements

  • 6+ years working with network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP, and VPN
  • Strong experience with network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points (Meraki, Cisco, F5, Palo Alto)
  • 2+ years working with network automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible, Python, and PowerShell
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages such as Bash, Perl, and Ruby
  • Proven track record of successful network planning, design, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Advanced knowledge of routing protocols (especially EIGRP and BGP)
  • Advanced knowledge in Linux
  • Intermediate knowledge in Ansible, Python, and Bash script
  • Mastery of tools used by the team, such as CheckMK, Grafana, TACGUI, TCPdump, Wireshark
  • Strong written, verbal, and quantitative communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and form positive relationships across the organization
  • High level of character and adherence to Power standards of conduct
