Network Engineer
About the role
About Neuralink: We are creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain. These devices allow us to restore movement to the paralyzed, restore sight to the blind, and revolutionize how humans interact with their digital world.
Team Description: Neuralink's Information Technology team owns the corporate environment that every engineer, scientist, and clinician depends on to do their work. Within IT, the Network function is responsible for the connectivity underneath all of it: the campus and data center networks that link our research labs, assembly lines, offices, and compute clusters, and the firewalls, wireless, and zero-trust access that keep that traffic secure. When the network is down, research stops and the line stops, so we hold a high bar for reliability, observability, and configuration managed as code.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, maintain, and monitor campus and data center network infrastructure including switching, routing, wireless, and NAC; respond aggressively to incidents to maintain uptime
- Architect and operate high-speed data center fabrics supporting HPC and GPU clusters, including ECMP, low-latency switching, and east-west traffic design
- Deploy and manage firewalls, SD-WAN, and site-to-site connectivity; partner with the IT Security & Identity function on segmentation, 802.1x, and zero-trust network access
- Own fiber and structured cabling design across buildings and data center spaces, including WDM, GPON, and fiber plant documentation
- Automate network configuration, provisioning, and validation using Terraform, Ansible, and scripting (Python, Bash); treat network state as versioned, reviewable code
- Operate network observability: SNMP, sFlow, telemetry, and alerting in Prometheus and Grafana; drive capacity planning from the data
- Plan and coordinate maintenance windows, upgrades, and expansions; maintain 24/7 on-call readiness for network incidents
- Ensure network systems comply with HIPAA, PII handling requirements, and applicable cybersecurity standards (ISO, NIST)
- Author and maintain network topology diagrams, design documents, runbooks, and SOPs
- Manage network hardware inventory, vendor relationships, and procurement for switches, routers, wireless, and optics
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with enterprise switching, routing, and wireless platforms
- Working knowledge of routing protocols and network technologies: BGP, OSPF, ECMP, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, NTP, PTP, ARP, CDP, LLDP
- Experience with firewalls, SD-WAN, NAC, and enterprise network security technologies
- Experience designing or operating high-speed data center networks for compute or storage clusters
- Familiarity with network monitoring and telemetry (Prometheus, Grafana, sFlow, or similar)
- Experience automating network configuration with Terraform, Ansible, or scripting
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field OR equivalent practical experience
- Familiarity with Wave Division Multiplexing, fiber optics, GPON, and FTTH (preferred)
- Experience with eBPF-based observability or packet analysis tooling (preferred)
- Exposure to real-time systems and industrial telemetry networks (preferred)
- Experience with mesh VPN and identity-aware, zero-trust network access (preferred)
- Experience with centrally managed next-generation firewalls (preferred)
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent data center certifications (preferred)
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and Neuralink’s data privacy policies; commitment to confidentiality, data security, and responsible handling of sensitive information (required)
Pay
Base Salary Range: $83,000 USD - $138,000 USD. Actual base pay determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education
