Network Engineer

Summary

The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining the network and system infrastructure that supports all City Departments' data communications networks and computer systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Network architecture and design
• VLAN segmentation and implementation
• Routing and switching configuration
• Firewall management (in conjunction with Cybersecurity)
• VPN connectivity and site integration
• IP addressing structure and management
• Network performance and stability
• Network equipment lifecycle and firmware management
• Work with the Cybersecurity and Systems Administrator to secure and optimize the network
• Assess and improve VPN connectivity for performance, high availability, and redundancy
• Maintain network documentation and network maps
• Standardize wireless SSIDs and configuration
• Maintain and respond to network monitoring and alerting systems
• Maintain backups of all network device configurations and ensure recoverability
• Cook with vendors for troubleshooting and support

Abilities

• Must be able to drive to and perform maintenance to all City-owned sites in all weather conditions
• May be required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds
• Facilitate group processes, implement effective problem-solving solutions, and build consensus among competing interests
• Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with elected officials, the city manager, department heads, other employees, employees of other agencies, and the general public
