Position: Network Engineer
Effective Date: 06/23/2026
Employment Status: Full-Time
Salary: Based on experience, education, and relevant certifications held.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Minimum Education Requirements: Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent
Direct Supervisor: Director of Information Technology
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Primary Work Location: Office or Remote Sites
Desired Certification(s): Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+
- Two (2) years with Cisco, Meraki, Voice over IP (VoIP), Satellite, and Cellular Router Systems
Summary
Under the supervision of the Information Technology Director, the Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining the network and system infrastructure that supports all City Departments data communications networks and computer systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Network architecture and design
- VLAN segmentation and implementation
- Routing and switching configuration
- Firewall management (in conjunction with Cybersecurity)
- VPN connectivity and site integration
- IP addressing structure and management, Network performance and stability
- Network equipment lifecycle and firmware management
- Work with the Cybersecurity and Systems Administrator to secure and optimize the network
- Assess and improve VPN connectivity for performance, high availability, and redundancy
- Maintain network documentation and network maps
- Standardize wireless SSIDs and configuration
- Maintain and respond to network monitoring and alerting systems
- Maintain backups of all network device configurations and ensure recoverability
- Coordinate with vendors for troubleshooting and support
