Network Engineer

About the role

The Network Engineer II plays a crucial role in the technical operations of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, focusing on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure devices and software.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead the installation, configuration, documentation, and maintenance of network infrastructure devices and software, including network routers, switches, load balancers, and firewalls.
• Ensure high availability and security of the network infrastructure.
• Conduct activities related to Business Recovery, including providing network redundancy and participating in semi-annual Business Recovery tests.
• Work with outside vendors and other departmental personnel to resolve production issues.
• Collaborate with Server Engineering and Information Security to respond to and resolve network availability, performance, and security issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
• 4 years’ experience working in a network administration role required.
• CCNA required, and CCNP certification preferred.
• Experience with Cisco routers and switches is required.
• Experience with Cisco Nexus and Fiber Channel equipment preferred.
• Experience with FortiGate firewalls is preferred.
• Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office productivity software and graphical documentation tools.
• A comprehensive understanding of network protocols and associated applications and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills required.
• Experience with Network Diagnostic troubleshooting and monitoring tools required.
• Experience with Wireshark, Cisco ISE, Cisco DCNM, and Solarwinds Orion is preferred.
