About the Role

M.C. Dean is seeking a Network Engineer 3 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business unit. As part of the SES Strategic Business Unit, you will design, engineer, integrate, operate, and maintain electronic security services, including intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audiovisual systems, IT systems, perimeter defense, and command and control systems for federal, local, and commercial customers. This position supports the US Air Force Education and Training Center.

Responsibilities

  • Technical:
    • Produce survey reports with actionable measurement results for senior personnel and management.
    • Conduct site surveys, inspections, and tours of client locations as required.
    • Design, install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
    • Collaborate with field engineers to simulate system-level performance and provide feedback on potential improvements.
    • Assist senior network engineers in identifying and resolving network security issues.
    • Develop network designs for each SLA classification.
    • Originate design documents for small projects and support large programs.
    • Assist senior engineers in preparing designs, including narrative design documents, system designs, subsystem designs (CAD/panels/layouts/wiring/hardware/communications), specifications, QA/QC, and technical reviews.
    • Resolve comments, conduct testing and commissioning, and review/approve test plans (safety/risk/manufacturability).
    • Author test plans, testing/commissioning procedures, and test reports.
    • Lead and supervise testing activities, including commissioning of deployed systems.
    • Develop test fixtures and simulation devices.
    • Generate standard PITCO plans and procedures.
    • Design and perform complete system integration tests.
    • Troubleshoot and debug complex network problems, recommending operational efficiency improvements.
    • Perform preventative maintenance, including software/hardware/firmware upgrades, security updates, performance upgrades, and scheduled maintenance.
    • Originate and submit maintenance plans with rollback procedures.
    • Serve as backup for team members during paid time off.
    • Perform hardware/software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
    • Support a 24/7 on-call schedule.
  • System Analysis and Reporting:
    • Document crucial working procedures and troubleshooting steps for network operations.
    • Apply moderate understanding of network administration to business operations.
    • Assist team members in identifying and resolving basic to moderate network/telecom issues.
    • Interpret and analyze results against established benchmarks and goals.
    • Work with project managers to meet expectations for network tasks and complete project assignments on time.
    • Contribute to team and cross-team efforts through quality and accuracy of output.
    • Perform research on available technologies and products as needed by operations or project managers.
  • Managerial:
    • Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for projects.
    • Assist senior engineers in preparing bids, proposals, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
    • Price change orders.
    • Assist in developing and adapting documents, procedures, and formal processes for the Network Engineering team to accomplish company project planning (PKOMs and gate checks).
    • Collaborate with other disciplines to define work and interfaces.

Requirements

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information. An ACTIVE SECRET clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), or a related discipline and 5+ years of progressive experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Understanding of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) concepts.
    • Knowledge of security issues and implications for network solutions.
    • Proficiency in network concepts, technologies, tools, and philosophies, with the ability to design an organization’s network infrastructure and services.
    • Knowledge of system development methodology, project management, system architecture, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Strong oral, technical writing, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to build productive relationships with team members, clients, and other network/system stakeholders.
    • Ability to establish working relationships outside of your area of expertise.
  • Behavioral Skills:
    • Ability to balance high-quality standards with schedule pressures in a demanding environment.
    • Must be a resourceful, self-starter, flexible, proactive, solution-oriented, and customer-focused.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Reading network and connectivity schematics and plans.
    • Network system startup, configuration, and calibration.
    • Testing and troubleshooting.
    • Use of basic electrical and machinist hand tools.
    • Use of testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software (e.g., spectrum analyzer, cable tester, alignment tool).
  • Tools/Software:
    • Ticketing and monitoring toolsets.
    • Knowledge of one or more IT/Network platforms, such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, or Arista.
    • Standard network software (Visio, Wireshark, PuTTY, CLI, etc.).
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity and STIG applications for network systems.
