About the role
The AWS Network Engineering Organization is seeking a Network Development Engineer to join the Internet Edge team. This role focuses on the internet traffic that enables users to access their information and applications regardless of their location.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, scale, and automate network infrastructure across various global data centers supporting Amazon Retail, Kindle, Payments, and multiple AWS services.
- Drive scaling of current network designs to meet customer demands.
- Create simple, repeatable deployment processes to increase both speed and quality.
- Collaborate with internal customers to bring designs and solutions from concept to production.
- Create and update network standards and ensure compliance with these standards.
- Create and implement changes on the network.
- Work closely with automation teams to define tools for scaling at higher volumes.
- Support off-hours operations escalation pager rotations.
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining high levels of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or equivalent quantitative field.
- Extensive experience with IP networking fundamentals and application of IP protocols.
- Robust troubleshooting experience in network analysis fundamentals.
- Experience with major internet routing protocols, particularly BGP and OSPF.
- Experience with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos.
- Linux/Unix environment experience, including scripting in Perl, shell, C, or C++.
- Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
- Experience working with customers to diagnose problems and resolve issues.
- Experience with networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
- Experience with network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
- Experience with Unix and scripting in Perl, shell, C, or C++.
- Experience working with customers to diagnose problems and resolve issues.
- Experience with networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
- Experience with network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
