Network Development Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking a cleared Network Development Engineer to join the Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area within the Defense Sector. This role supports multiple DoD customers in developing advanced technology to protect warfighters. You will work in our Arlington, VA office, contributing to network infrastructure design, automation, troubleshooting, and software integration across a diverse portfolio of programs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and automate large-scale data networks with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Use programming (Python, C++) and DevOps tools (Git, Ansible, Terraform) to automate infrastructure deployments, manage configurations, and perform deep troubleshooting.
• Assist in the design, build, and scaling of complex, high-throughput network infrastructure.
• Develop tools and automate manual tasks to improve network efficiency and performance.
• Debug and solve complex network issues, performing deep dives into hardware and protocols.
• Monitor and tune network performance, evaluating new technologies for system upgrades.
• Create engineering design documents, policies, and best practices in collaboration with system designers and developers.
• Provide software support for integrating new technologies into existing networked systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 1 year of experience in computer engineering, software engineering, test engineering, or a related field.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.
• Experience working in a Systems Integration Lab (SIL) environment.
• Strong desire to learn and grow with new technologies.
• Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic environment.
• Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
• Experience with Python or Bash scripting.
• 2+ years of experience in network engineering, deployments, or architecture.
• Experience with Linux systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active TS clearance.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, preferably Scrum or Kanban.
• Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• Experience with Network Operating Systems like Junos or Cisco IOS.
• Knowledge of network security architecture (firewalls, ACLs).
• Experience in large-scale corporate enterprise or data center environments.
• Experience with network containers in support of CI/CD pipelines.

Pay

Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other legal requirements.
