Network Administrator IV
About the role
A seasoned contributor who owns key segments of the enterprise network. Executes major upgrades, tunes performance, improves observability, and mentors others. Coordinates change communications and partners with vendors to ensure delivery aligns to SLAs, security standards, and architecture patterns.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and upgrade enterprise network infrastructure (switches, routers, WLAN controllers/APs, SD WAN edges, load balancers).
- Tune network performance and availability using telemetry, synthetic tests, and capacity trends.
- Resolve complex incidents and eliminate recurring issues through problem management.
- Automate routine configuration and validation tasks; contribute modules/playbooks to shared libraries.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product on releases, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate planned and unplanned changes, providing status, impact, and remediation clearly.
- Validate compliance with operational metrics, SLAs, and architecture standards; report gaps and actions.
- Oversee day-to-day vendor/carrier tasks and verify service credits or escalations when needed.
- Maintain current diagrams, asset records, and knowledge articles to support consistent operations.
- Guide junior team members through complex changes and incident handling.
- May be called upon to support critical escalations and must be available during urgent IT incidents as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent years of work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise network administration (switches, routers, WLAN, SD-WAN, load balancers).
- Proficiency with major network vendor platforms and enterprise monitoring/automation tools.
- Strong skills in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and change management.
- Experience automating operational tasks using scripting tools.
- Proficiency with monitoring tools and ITSM/ticketing processes.
- Ability to lead complex changes and mentor less experienced team members.
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to cloud interconnects, zero trust segmentation, and NAC platforms.
- Experience with load balancers (L4-L7) and global traffic management.
- Certifications: CCNP (or equivalent), Aruba/Juniper/Extreme Professional, ITIL Foundation.
