About the role

Cardiff Met Sport is at the heart of sport, physical activity, health & wellbeing in Wales’ Capital City. Our mission is to profoundly enhance the lives of our communities, making them healthier and stronger as an outcome of engaging with us. We work in partnership with local, regional and national partners to develop and manage high-quality sport facilities including the National Indoor Athletics Centre, Tennis Centre, and Archers Arena on our Cyncoed Campus, along with several 21st Century Schools across the city.

We are seeking a Netball Head Coach to lead the planning and delivery of the Netball programme, including the 1st and 2nd BUCS teams. You will serve as a key point of contact between the Head of Sport System, the Students’ Union, Club Committee, and Performance Services Team to develop and support the performance programme and its connection to the wider club.

This is an exciting opportunity for a coach with performance-level experience to work within a programme competing at the top of the university structure. You will work with student athletes across university, representative, and pathway programmes, supported by established performance sport services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day planning and delivery of the Netball performance programme, ensuring training, competition, and player preparation align with BUCS demands and contemporary coaching practice.
  • Plan, coach, and manage all aspects of netball preparation, including weekly training cycles, game models, tactical frameworks, opposition analysis, competition planning, and match-day delivery.

Current training and match commitments include:

  • Mondays: 5:00–6:30 PM
  • Fridays: 7:00–9:00 AM
  • Wednesdays: Matches (10 league matches + cup) – start times vary but will likely be afternoons/evenings.

Requirements

  • Netball Level 2 coaching qualification.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop performance services (e.g., strength & conditioning, physiotherapy).
  • A demonstrable track record of improving individual and team performance.
  • An understanding of working with student athletes.

Benefits

  • Annual leave of 25 days, rising to 30 days after 1 year’s service, plus 12 bank holiday/concessionary days (pro rata).
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous contributions.
  • Excellent family-friendly policies.
  • Opportunities to learn and develop skills with access to library and digital services facilities.
  • Excellent sports and fitness facilities with subsidised membership.
  • Free family access to independent specialist wellbeing support provider, Health Assured.

Pay

£29,588 to £34,610 per annum pro rata.
