Job Summary/Essential Job Functions
The Educator provides education, simulation, and consultation services necessary for medical professionals to deliver optimal Newborn clinical care and/or Maternal Health Care in West Tennessee. This position serves as a vital link between the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology and OB/GYN and communities throughout West Tennessee. This educational and consultation service will assist other institutions and hospitals with defining their Newborn status level (Level I-IV).
Responsibilities
- Schedules, prepares, and conducts neonatal education and/or education to maternal health providers events including simulations, in-services, and hands-on training for healthcare teams in hospitals and EMS settings in the West Tennessee Region.
- Provides education for Level I Care of the Neonates within the Perinatal Center and surrounding West Tennessee area.
- Provides education for Level IIA and Level IIB Care of the High-Risk Neonates within the Perinatal Center and surrounding West Tennessee area.
- Provides Neonatal Resuscitation Programs provider course within the Perinatal Center and surrounding West Tennessee area.
- Provides NRP Instructor and STABLE course facilitation within the Perinatal Center and surrounding West Tennessee area.
- Prepares, organizes, and teaches Level III in-service classes at the Regional Neonatal Center.
- Plans and facilitates training programs for physicians and nurses at Regional One Health.
- Engages with the Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Family Health & Wellness on statewide initiatives; participates in state and regional perinatal quality improvement work groups, including Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) and Vermont Oxford Network (VON) projects.
- Plans and conducts education programs for Regional One Health nurses in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Well-Baby Nursery (WBN) and Labor and Delivery Unit.
- Provides consultation services regarding standards of care for hospitals, institutions, and emergency services within the West Tennessee Region.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION: Degree in Nursing. (Bachelor’s Degree preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
- EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse or Labor and Delivery.
- MUST HAVE: Valid Driver’s License.
- LICENSE: RN license in the State of Tennessee.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- SKILL IN WORKING IN THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AND NEWBORN CARE.
- KNOWLEDGE OF LOW- AND HIGH-RISK NEONATES TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE EDUCATION TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
- ABILITY TO ASSESS EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND APPROPRIATELY PREPARE FOR THE EDUCATION OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
- ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN OPEN COMMUNICATION WITH WEST TENNESSEE PROVIDERS.
- KNOWLEDGE OF JCAHO AND HIPAA REQUIREMENTS.
- KNOWLEDGE OF IRB REQUIREMENTS TO CONDUCT RESEARCH.
- KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY, ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY, DISEASE PROCESSES, TREATMENT, AND MEDICATIONS.
