About the role
The Neonatologist Nurse Practitioner will provide assessment, evaluation, and treatment of neonates in the RNICU, collaborating with Neonatologists.
Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care in collaboration with the Neonatologists
- Reporting in-patient care rounds and problem-oriented documentation
- Collaborating with the health care team in planning and coordinating care for the neonate and his/her family through care conferences
- Ordering diagnostic studies and therapeutic measures in collaboration with the responsible physician
- Ordering medications utilizing approved NICU goals, guidelines, and protocols (including blood and blood products)
- Attending high-risk deliveries, resuscitating, and stabilizing patients
- Determining the need for and performing core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic, and other procedures
- Providing direction to NNTS on transport or participating on transports when appropriate
- Consulting with Newborn Nursery and Perinatal areas
- Aiding in clinical supervision and teaching of residents, advanced practice nursing students, and PA students
- Participating in performance evaluations
- Formulating long and short-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses
- Participating in the formulation, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures in the RNICU
- Participating in performance improvement
- Maintaining a climate conducive to open communication
- Acting as a role model and resource for peers, residents, and nursing staff
- Maintaining a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior
- Serving as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve
- Demonstrating knowledge and respect for patient, service provider, and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information
- Maintaining and protecting patients' rights under the HIPAA privacy standards
- Supporting and participating in research activities
- Promoting understanding of research projects and/or findings for nursing students, staff, and peers
Requirements
- Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures

- Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up

- Able to use computer and learn new software programs
- Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
- Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
- Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
- Able to remain focused and organized
