About the role

This position is responsible for diagnosing electrical and electronic malfunctions on transit coaches and other equipment. The incumbent will remove, test, repair and replace defective components and wiring and test circuits. They will also test and install new electronic equipment and devices. The role involves setting up and operating various types of specialized electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt-ohm meters, and signal generators.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose electrical and electronic malfunctions on transit coaches and other equipment.
  • Remove, test, repair and replace defective components and wiring and test circuits.
  • Test and install new electronic equipment and devices.
  • Set up and operate various types of specialized electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt-ohm meters and signal generators.

Requirements

  • Two years of college-level electronics training or completion of military electronics training, AND two years experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment OR an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience and skill interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Ability to use a variety of specialized electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt-ohm meters and signal generators.
  • Ability to use large hand tools such as: pneumatic tools, large electronic terminal crimpers.
  • Ability to safely and effectively measure high voltages (700 volts) with hand-held test equipment.

Qualifications

Pay

This position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

Schedule

Vacancies may be available on day, swing, and graveyard shifts. Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority “pick” system that occurs three times a year.
