NDT Level II VT/MT for Shipyard work NNS - Full Time with or without benefits plus per diem

About the role
ATS is seeking Level II VT/MT Technicians for Newport News Shipyard (NNS). You will work at NNS and be attached to the ATS Chesapeake, VA office. Two employment options are available if qualified:
- Full-time with benefits: $38/hr to start, increasing to $40/hr after a successful performance review following 6 months of continuous employment. Eligible for overtime.
- Full-time without benefits: $46/hr to start, increasing to $48/hr after a successful performance review following 6 months of continuous employment. Eligible for overtime.
Per diem of $178/day is available once certified as VT/MT Level II and after passing HII TPE. Per diem is paid for days worked (minimum 8 hours per day). To qualify, you must reside more than 50 miles from your permanent residence and work a minimum of 40 hours per week to receive 7 days of per diem.
Responsibilities
- Perform VT and MT examinations of materials in accordance with procedures, codes, standards, and specifications.
- Set up and utilize NDT testing equipment.
- Operate handheld grinders to remove detected discontinuities.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which qualified and exercise assigned responsibility for OJT and guidance of trainees.
- Interface with department managers and clients to determine scope of work and work priorities to meet customer expectations.
- Prepare written instructions and organize and report the results of examinations.
- Work independently and support team members.
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- Actively participate in ATS and client safety programs.
Requirements
- Meet the minimum requirements of an NDT Level II VT/MT Technician.
- Provide documentation of education, training, and experience in the applicable NDT method(s).
- Have a working knowledge of industrial environments and general manufacturing processes.
- Ability to effectively communicate with other departments and customers to report issues and solve problems.
- NAVSEA and/or shipyard work experience is a plus.
- Additional NDT certifications are a plus.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Ability to learn and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must pass a drug screen and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must pass an extensive background check required for access to the shipyard.
- Must be a "U.S. Person" (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) due to ITAR export control requirements.
Work Conditions
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
- Work from heights on scaffolding, ladders, elevated platforms, man-baskets, etc.
- Work in confined spaces requiring crawling, stooping, climbing, etc.
- Work in and around operating equipment and industrial environments.
- Work shifts up to 12 hours/day and 7 days/week, with potential for extended travel.
- Ability to lift and carry 100 pounds.
