NDT Level 2 Inspector (2nd Shift)

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an NDT Level 2 Inspector (2nd Shift) to join our Manufacturing department based in Mobile, AL. The role offers broad exposure across A220 and A320 programs, with opportunities to drive continuous improvement and support Airbus’ global competitiveness.

About the role

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take aircraft from concept to customer delivery, working with production teams on assembly, technical information, quality control, maintenance, and health & safety. The facility, located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, produces A320 Family aircraft and A220 aircraft, strengthening the U.S. aerospace industry.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of NDT inspections (ET, UT, and PT) across A220 and A320 programs.
• Interpret, evaluate, communicate, and report findings to production and engineering teams.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings as required.
• Develop and support NDT inspection techniques for complex geometries and confined spaces.
• Assist in training and developing team members.
• Conduct tests to determine part quality and identify discontinuities.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety laws and regulations.
• Prepare inspection reports, mappings, and related documentation.
• Review production schedules and facilitate on-time delivery.
• Contribute to internal Quality Gates through timely closure of inspection points.
• Report and escalate team blocking points throughout the shift.
• Support department KPIs to drive process improvements.
• Advocate for LEAN principles and support KAIZEN initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with all defined processes.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Aviation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience setting up and conducting tests on parts and materials.
• Non-Destructive Evaluation Level II certification meeting NAS410 / EN4179 Standards in at least one of the following methods: Eddy Current Testing (ET), Fluorescent Penetrant Testing (PT), or Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
• Additional Level II certifications in ET, PT, or UT are preferred.
• Experience performing NDT testing within the aerospace industry.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Suite.
• Experience inspecting advanced materials such as high-strength aluminum alloys, hardened steels, Inconel, titanium, steel (super alloys), composite carbon fiber parts, and honeycomb composite parts.
• Knowledge of AWS/ASME, ASTM standards, and Aircraft Structural and Repair Manuals.
• Hands-on experience using portable digital equipment such as Olympus EPOCH 650, USM Go/USM Go+, NORTEC 600, and Olympus 38DL+.
• Preferred: 2+ years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in aviation.

• Equipment Operation: Ability to operate office equipment (computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines) and production tools, including hydraulic lifts and electronic identification cards.
• Carrying: Ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
• Lifting: Ability to lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
• Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push and pull small office furniture, equipment, and tools.
• Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods during meetings or computer work.
• Squatting/Kneeling: Ability to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items on low shelving.
• Standing: Ability to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
• Travel: Ability to travel independently and at short notice.
• Walking: Ability to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: Safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and/or protective gloves as required by site or customer site.
