NCS-Texas CAD Designer

Job Summary

Civil Engineering CAD Designer with strong experience in single-family residential and commercial site development as well as municipal infrastructure and treatment plant projects. Supports civil engineering staff by preparing detailed construction drawings, exhibits, calculations, and technical documents.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Completion of technical school with CAD design certificate or associate degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering field desired.
• 5+ years of experience in civil engineering drafting for land development projects.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, development/design of corridors, and grading surfaces in a development design capacity.
• Strong understanding and ability to apply grading, drainage, and utility design practices.
• Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
• Strong organizational, communication and teamwork mindset.

Expertise in the Following is Required

• Reading and interpreting, deeds, plats, sketches, as-builts, specifications, and construction drawings
• Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D
• Preparing schematic, design development, and final (construction) drawings
• Ability to model for roadway design
• Ability to perform earthwork calculations through surface comparisons

Experience in the Following is Preferred

• Adobe/Bluebeam

Duties/Responsibilities

• Read and interpret, deeds, plats, sketches, as-builts, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Read, interpret, and work from basic and routine deeds, plats, sketches, as-builts, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Receive work direction from lead CAD staff and/or engineers.
• Maintain CAD standards, drawing organization and project file management for project setup and completion.
• Communicate effectively and foster a cooperative work environment with drafting, engineering, and construction team members.
• Prepare schematic, design development, and final (construction) drawings as required.
• Build and manipulate 3D surface models in AutoCAD, apply corridor modeling for road design, and perform earthwork calculations through surface comparisons.
• Apply agency regulation documents to design projects according to requirements and standards and assist CAD drafters and junior staff with the same.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare grading designs and plans, street plans and profiles (both curb and gutter and open ditch design utilizing corridors), drainage area maps, storm sewer, water, sanitary sewer plans and profiles.
• Create and markup existing PDF documents using Adobe/Bluebeam to track markup completion.
• Able to work independently, use experience and judgement with minimal direction while also engaging lead engineer to solve design elements to keep projects on schedule, within agency regulations and constructable.
• Support multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
